why

Surface preparation through sandblasting and grit blasting (collectively known as abrasive blasting) is the process of forcibly propelling abrasive media against a surface to clean it, remove contaminants, or create a specific texture (profile) for better coating adhesion. While "sandblasting" is the common term, modern industry often uses safer alternatives like steel grit or garnet because silica sand poses health risks. Core Objectives Cleaning: Removes rust, mill scale, old paint, corrosion, and grease. Profiling: Creates an "anchor pattern" (microscopic peaks and valleys) that allows paints and coatings to bond mechanically to the substrate. Conditioning: Can be used to strengthen metal surfaces (peening) or create decorative matte finishes on glass and wood.
